London Luton had record number of passengers in July with 1.67 million passengers commuting through the airport.

As compared to last year there was 3.1 per cent increase, marking July as the 18th consecutive month when more than one million passengers passed through the airport.

LLA’s 80th anniversary is being celebrated throughout the month with staff, passengers and the local community.

There will be a launch of limited-edition birthday Capmari cocktail from Oriel Grande Brasserie, goodie bags and macarons for passengers.

Nick Barton, chief executive of LLA mentioned that July was a milestone month for the airport, they cherished 80 years of growth and reaching the next stage of £160 million redevelopment.

The transformation implies that the passengers can avail quicker journeys allowing more people to travel to new destinations. He was looking forward to welcome more passengers during the rest of the summer.

The capacities will increase due to redevelopment from 12 million to 18 million passengers per annum by 2020.
There will be complete redesigning of the terminal, installation of new shops, restaurants and upgrading the transport links. There will be better road access to the M1, new parking facilities, coach interchange and improved rail links to the Luton Airport Parkway station. Additionally there are plans for £200 million light rail system that will link the airport with Luton Airport Parkway station.
