The Libyan minister of transport stated that the Libyan authorities were negotiating with the European Union to lift the ban imposed on the Libyan airplanes for nearly four years.
This has caused major financial loses for the Libyan airlines. In the past few days a high-level delegation visited Brussels and met with the European Aviation Safety Agency to discuss the possibility of lifting the ban on national airlines stated Milad Ma’tug the Libyan Minister of Transport.
The Libyan airports will remain committed to the safety rules catering to the international standards which will be of great interest to the civil aviation authority.
He further mentioned that the agency had promised to send inspectors to Libya to check the level of technical readiness concerning safety and security rules.
In November during the final report of the European Agency will be presented during a meeting.Since 2014 the EU imposed a ban on all Libyan airlines in European airspace due to safety concerns post the violent clashes in Tripoli between the rival armed groups destroying the city’s international airport.
The only functioning airport in the city is the M’etiga airport located inside the air base. This was also attacked several times by the armed group leading to the repeated suspension of flights.
