Aerospace giant Bombardier has won a deal worth as much potential as $1.4 billion to sell up to 30 regional jets part-made in Belfast to American Airlines.

This deal marks great news for Northern Ireland workforce of Bombardier of about 4,500 people. The main body, engine casing and wing components for the CRJ900 are manufactured in Belfast.

Currently American Airlines has made a firm order for 15 CRJ900 with the option to buy 15 more.

Bombardier mentioned that the firm deal was worth $719 million.

This deal was announced as Bombardier had revealed a 12% rise in revenues to $4 billion. And its first quarter results also indicate that its tie-in with rival Airbus is likely to close by the end of June, ahead of schedule.

BombardierThe companies have announced a deal last year for a joint venture for the production of the C Series, a narrow-bodied passenger jet. Its wings are made in Belfast.

Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft asserted that they are quite happy with America’s sustained confidence in Bombardier and the CRJ900 aircraft.

East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson welcomed the order.

The DUP MP said that it is great news for Bombardier to secure an order worth over half a billion pounds and obviously also for the plant and workforce in Belfast.
