The flag carrier of Australia, Qantas is selling its catering division to an Emirates Group, Dubai National Air Transpart Association.

The authorities of Qantas Airlines is going to focus on premium lounges and ultra long-haul routes.

There are about 1,200 Qantas employees will transfer to Dnata (Dubai National Air Transpart Association), an aviation service company supplying foods to the different airlines in the world. From now, Dnata will supply the food for Qantas flights for an initial period of 10 years.

Qantas Airways has sold the non-core assets in the past few years including a military aircraft services division. The aviation company has focused to strengthen the earnings through premium customers and direct flights to far-flung destinations.

The food and catering division is a capital-intensive operation. It requires the specialist vehicles to load aircraft and food preparation sites to be near an airport.

The catering service is concentrated in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Dubai National Air Transpart Association is one of the largest suppliers of joint air services in the world offering aircraft ground handling, cargo, travel, and flight catering services across five continents. The company serves more than 320,000 meals a day.

The company’s catering business produces more than 34 million meals annually for Qantas and other airlines each year, equivalent to about 93,000 a day.

Qantas Airlines began the long haul flights between Perth and London. It is the first non-stop passenger services to connect Australia and Europe. The carrier said it plans to start a Melbourne-San Francisco service in 2018 September. Qantas is also considering in launching the direct flights to Chicago.
