Booking data at leading beach holiday specialist On the Beach has revealed Spain and its islands as the most popular holiday destination amongst sun-starved Britons this summer, with the Balearic Island of Majorca the most popular hot spot.
Research conducted by On the Beach revealed Spain reigns this summer, with destinations such as Tenerife, Costa Blanca, Lanzarote and Ibiza leading the way.
According to booking data, Greece is the second most popular summer sun destination with resorts on the mainland and the sun-kissed islands proving all too tempting for British holidaymakers.
Britons are getting a taste for Turkey once again this year with the destination named the third most popular destination followed by the Portuguese Algarve region.
Malta, which welcomes more than half a million British tourists to its shores each year, continues to prove be a hit amongst Britons, named the fifth most popular destination this summer.
Emerging hot spots for Britons
Many British holidaymakers are looking to experience new destinations this summer and booking data has revealed the Italian islands of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean and Sardinia are the fastest growing destination amongst Brits, grabbing first and second sport respectively.
Halkidiki, the sun-kissed resort on the Greek mainland is the third fastest growing destination, closely followed by Cancun (Mexico) and Marrakech (Morocco).
Cheaper than 2017
For Brits looking to tighten the purse strings this year and are looking to grab a holiday in a destination which is cheaper this year compared to last, many of the most popular Greek Islands offer the best value, with holidays to the sun-kissed islands of Kos (-11%) and Kefalonia (-8) cheaper than last year.
Research also revealed holidays to both Croatia and Zante are more than 5% cheaper than summer 17’.
Playing the long-haul game
According to booking data, the sunshine state of Florida is the most popular long-haul destination this summer, closely flowed by Cancun (Mexico), whilst the Caribbean Island of Dominican Republic grabs third place.
The popularity of the UAE continues to grow, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi revealed as the fourth and fifth most popular long-haul destination amongst British jet-setters this summer.
