Carlisle airport, gateway to the Lake District is on its way to get its debut passenger flights on 4th June when Loganair would be commencing services to Southend, Dublin and Belfast City.
The Cumbrian airport that is owned by Stobart Group would have eight flights a day from Monday to Friday and a total of 12 at weekends.
Managing director of Loganair, Jonathan Hinkles mentioned that they were pleased to be the very first operator of the brand new Carlisle Lake District Airport. They would be opening up Loganair’s services to a whole new series of customers.
The airplane utilized would be 34-seat Saab 340Bs with two pilots and one cabin crew member.
Between London and Carlisle the fastest trains would take three hours, 20 minutes for an off-peak fare of about £120 return. The flight to Southend is scheduled for one hour 25 minutes. Passengers from Carlisle heading to Dublin would be capable of clearing US immigration checks in the Irish capital.
The head of corporate projects at Stobart Group, Kate Willard mentioned that there is quite a large demand from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and London to visit Carlisle that is home to important businesses and is an important gateway to the Lake District, south Scotland and two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Before passenger services ended in 1993, Carlisle had links to Heathrow, Dundee and other regions.
