After two-year suspension, Russian President Vladimir Putin has authorised commercial flights between Egypt and Russia to resume

Since the bombing of a Metrojet aircraft in 2015 the flights were banned.

The resumption of ban might further lead to pressure on the British government to review its own stance on flights to Egypt.

However, the UK Foreign Office (FCO) currently advises against flying into Sharm el Sheikh taking into consideration  the bombing of a Russian Metrojet aircraft in 2015.

Egyptian destinations like Hurghada and the Red Sea Bays have worked hard to attract some of Sharm’s business which offers the same year-round beach and diving attractions.

Amr El-Ezabi, director UK & Ireland for the Egyptian State Tourist Authority was pleased that the flights between Egypt and Russia will resume.

It clearly indicates the confidence of Russian government in the aviation and airport security standards introduced by the Egypt.

It was expected to encourage flights back to Sharm from the UK so that travellers can return to the destination.

Post the 2015 attack, the Egyptian government has invested £20 million into raising airport security standards, working with a British aviation security firm.

Barring UK, all European countries, have now permitted flights to resume.
