For the very first time, cruise appears as a contributor to the official tourism statistics of New Zealand.
The 2017 Tourism Satellite Account includes cruise sector expenditure and it actually fills a long gap in tourism statistics, as mentioned by the New Zealand Cruise Association (NZCA).

In the absence of official statistics, the economic contribution of the cruise sector had been previously calculated by the consultants of NZCA.
