Tourism is going to be the brand new star of the economy of Indonesia, as per the recent findings of the report released by the Tourism Ministry of the nation announced on 17th October.
The report contains the performance scenario of the last three years.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya mentioned that the tourism sector offers the easiest and most reasonably priced employment and is a contributor to the foreign exchange and GDP of the nation. As per the official data for this year, containing the details of the period between January and August, the number is up by 25.68%.
As compared to the ASEAN growth rate that is at 7%, the number is 3.5 times higher and four times higher than the global growth rate that is at 6.4%.
Way back in 2014 Indonesia has witnessed the arrival of approximately 9.3 million travellers. And in 2015 the number ascended to 10.4 million and 2016 saw the number progressing to 12 million. Now, until August this year the number has touched 9.2 million people. The number of domestic tourists is also on the rise.
This year in August the number reached 200 million tourists higher than the original target of 180.5 million visitors.
Last year the number was 264 million domestic tourists much above the original target of 260 million and in 2015 the number was 256 millions, a bit higher than the original target of 255 million people.
