Guam concluded with a record-breaking 1.56 million travelers, majority of them in a fiscal year to date, as per the Guam Visitors Bureau. Fiscal 2017 witnessed a 3.2 percent increase in visitors in comparison to the previous fiscal year, which had also created the record.

On Tuesday, Gov. Eddie Calvo and Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio published news release that appreciated the tourism agency for its work and effort in the hospitality and service industry.

In spite of the raise in visitors, Japanese visitors have decreased quite a lot. The tourism agency has mentioned about the decrease in flights along with seating capacity and the raising political stress between the U.S. and North Korea as factors in the decline.Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Guam in Japan

Huge inflow of South Korean visitors actually caused the decrease in Japan arrivals. GVB’s preliminary data for September pointed out 58,880 Korean arrivals, accounted a 33-percent rise from the previous September, making South Korea the highest markets for the month.

For Japan, in September, Guam received around 43,870 visitors, accounted a 32.6-percent drop from the same month in 2016. Other markets also witnessed the downward trend:

U.S./Hawaii: 7,074 to 5,151, or a 27.2-percent decrease

Taiwan: 3,490 to 2,345, or a 32.8-percent decrease

China: 1,822 to 1,294, or a 29-percent decrease

Philippines: 1,622 to 1,404, or a 13.4-percent decrease
