The House Committee on Tourism chaired by Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez of the Fourth District of Leyte is expected to attend the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, which will take place from November 6 to 8.
Rep. Erico Aristotle C. Aumentado of the Second District of Bohol that said he and six other committee vice chairmen will be joined by representatives of the Department of Tourism. The latter will market the Philippines’s attractions and destinations.
Aumentado said that the Philippines stands to gain from the WTM website that says “business contracts between exhibitors and travel professionals, key industry buyers, journalists, digital influencers, students and tourism ministers.”
Last year WTM generated more than £2.8 billion with almost 5,000 exhibiting destinations, technology and private-sector companies, and with 51,000 attendees under one roof.
Industry leaders are also expected to discuss trends, issues and innovations in the travel industry. From the speakers’ inputs and their team’s observations and firsthand information from fellow attendees, Aumentado said their committee will craft necessary legislations to improve and develop the Philippines’ tourism industry.
