A Marriott, Two Hilton Properties Get a New Look

An Art Deco Marriott and two Hilton properties recently completed renovations of varying scales. Here’s a look at what’s new:
JW Marriott Essex House New York
JW Marriott Essex House New York has completed a $38-million transformation of its 426 guestrooms, 101 suites, and corridors, redesigned to interpret a new and modern aesthetic.
The hotel’s structure and strong lines of its Art Deco heritage have been softened and expressed in a redefined way. This is a design that celebrates the many decades of the Essex House, with a subtle nod to the 1930s period, when the hotel first opened its doors.
A bold but neutral color palette plays to fashion’s own rebirth of the period. Carpet patterns are geometric, based on Art Deco but simplified in modern charcoal and cream colors. Furniture finishes are simple and clean in dark oak, white lacquer, polished chrome and bronze. The entire feeling of the new rooms is that of a personal pied-à-terre, according to the company. Comfort accents include bedside acrylic lamps with a pop of glamour, along with embroidered pillows that capture the Art Deco motif into a decorative detail, creating a residential, at-home vibe. All of the hotel’s bathrooms have been freshly updated with glossy black vanities and fittings, to complement the guestroom design.
Wimberly Interiors, a design studio of WATG, with offices in New York City and around the world, was responsible for the overall interior design.
Hilton Chicago
The historic 1,544-room Hilton Chicago, located on Michigan Ave. across from Grant Park, has completed a $7-million renovation. The newest revamp enhances the third-floor meeting spaces and Salon C in the Stevens Meeting Center leading to the finalization of an all-encompassing $150-million renovation and restoration initiative.
The new look blends the hotel’s classic architecture with a new contemporary style as it celebrates its 90th anniversary. Conceptualized by Looney & Associates, the newly debuted design was inspired by Chicago’s founding motto, Urbs in Horto, which translates to “city in a garden.”
The renovation brings a full transformation to the third floor, which is home to seven separate meeting rooms ideal for organic networking of small meetings to medium-sized conferences accommodating up to 850 guests. Designed with a cool color palette, the interior decor is inspired by Lake Michigan incorporating shades of purple and blue in bold, geometric patterns. The new aesthetic continues into the outer corridors with details such as blue carpeting, lighting fixtures and gray and gold armchairs to modernize the community space.
Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort
Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort has completed a $25-million renovation aimed at evolving and elevating the resort’s offerings for guests. Formerly known as the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort/Ocean Walk Village, the hotel is now operating under the name Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort and remains the largest full-service beachfront hotel in Daytona Beach, FL, according to the company.
The resort’s 60,000 sq. ft. of meeting space has been refreshed with new wallcoverings, carpet and high-end light fixtures. The aesthetic for the reimagined spaces incorporates a soft, modern color palette. Updates to the resort’s Ocean View Room, which offers floor-to-ceiling views of the Atlantic Ocean, include new furniture, lighting and access to the hotel’s North Tower deck for event scalability. In addition, 30 beachfront cabana suites underwent a ground-up renovation.
