Central European country of Slovenia, well known for its mountains, ski resorts and lakes enjoys a record breaking summer tourism season in 2017 thanks to increasing number of travelers visiting the country.
In July 2017, more than 672,000 tourist arrivals were recorded, 15% more than in July 2016, of which foreign tourists generated almost 523,000, which is a 17% increase compared to last year, and domestic tourists more than 149,000, which is an 8% increase compared to last year. Tourists generated almost 1,864,000 overnight stays, which is 13% more than in July 2016, of which foreign tourists generated almost 1,339,000 overnight stays or 16% more than last year and domestic tourists 525,000 overnight stays or 6% more than last year.
Top Source markets
Key markets, from which the most foreign tourists who generated the most overnight stays in Slovenia came, were Germany (almost 153,000 or 11%), the Netherlands (10%), Italy, Belgium and Austria (7% each) and the Czech Republic (6%).
In July 2017 tourists from the following key markets generated more overnight stays than in July 2016: the Netherlands (38% more), Germany (33% more), Belgium (29% more), the Czech Republic (28% more), Austria (6% more) and Italy (3% more).
In July 2017, more than 843,000 or 45% of all tourist overnight stays were recorded in hotels, 25% in camping sites, 7% in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings, 5% in apartment settlements, 3% in company vacation facilities and vacation facilities for youth and 3% in youth hostels.
Compared to July 2016 the number of overnight stays increased in all types of accommodations: in camping sites by 24%, in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings by 23%, in youth hostels by 13%, in company vacation facilities and vacation facilities for youth by 11%, in apartment settlements by 7% and in hotels by 6%.
In mountain resorts almost 603,000 overnight stays
In July 2017, the highest number of tourist overnight stays (32% or almost 603,000) was recorded in mountain resorts, followed by seaside resorts (24%), health (spa) resorts, (21%), and municipality Ljubljana (11%).
The number of tourist overnight stays increased in all types of tourist resorts compared to July of 2016: in mountain resorts by 20%, in municipality Ljubljana by 9%, in seaside resorts by 8% and in health (spa) resorts by 7%.
More than 6.6 million overnight stays in the first seven months of 2017
From the start of 2017 and up to the end of July, 6.6 million overnight stays were recorded in tourist accommodations in Slovenia, which is 12% more than last year. An increase in overnight stays can be seen for foreign as well as domestic tourists.
Foreign tourists generated almost 4.4 million overnight stays (or 66%), which is 17% more than last year, and almost 1.9 million arrivals (19% more). Domestic tourists generated 2.3 million overnight stays, 5% more than last year, and more than 760,000 arrivals (7% more).
