Geneva – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that the 2017 World Passenger Symposium (WPS) will focus on how technology, data, customization and digital transformation will reshape the customer experience of tomorrow.

"Digital transformation is a key strategic driver for our industry. Our customers are telling us what they value through the choices they make: from their preferred digital device to shop for air travel, to what they purchase, to how they check-in, to their onboard service options. The successful airline will use that information to transform themselves and deliver a more personalized experience to passengers. The World Passenger Symposium is a forum to discuss and debate how this transformation can be achieved," said Aleks Popovich, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Financial and Distribution Services.
The 7th edition of WPS will take place in Barcelona, 24-26 October. More than 700 high-level delegates from across the travel value chain are expected to attend.
Highlights:
  • 20-Year Passenger Forecast presented by Brian Pearce, IATA’s Chief Economist
  • Results of IATA’s 2017 Global Passenger Survey
  • The IATA Innovation Day will return for a second year
  • The CIO Forum will look at the Digital Airline and Open API
  • Presentation of the Travel Innovation Awards
  • Launch of the NEXTT project on the future passenger experience
"Air travelers’ service expectations may range from no-frills to luxurious—on the same trip. They are becoming more sophisticated travel shoppers and increasingly selective about what they are willing to pay for. Addressing these widely varying requirements requires innovation and data. WPS brings together experts to share research and learnings," said Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Airport, Passenger, Cargo and Security.
Specialized session tracks will cover: Customizing the Travel Experience and Tomorrow’s Journey; Distribution and Payment including New Distribution Capability (NDC) user experience and ONE Order; Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity; and Baggage Handling and Tracking.
