Russian Railways carry over 100 million passengers in July 2017

According to the latest figures, more than 102.3 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure of Russian Railways in July 2017, up 7.4% from the same month in 2016. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 89.7 million, an increase of 8.6%, while long-distance passengers fell to 12.6 million, a decline of 0.2%.
Passenger turnover in July 2017 amounted to 16 billion passenger-kilometres, 3.2% less than in July 2016. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 3 billion passenger-km, an increase of 0.4%, while long distance passenger turnover was down to 13 billion passenger-km, a fall of 4%.
During January-July 2017, a total of 632.3 million passengers were transported, up 9.2% compared to January-July 2016. Long-distance passenger numbers amounted to 57.9 million, which was down 0.3%, but suburban passengers totalled 574.4 million, an increase of 10.2%.
Passenger turnover on the network of Russian Railways since the beginning of 2017 decreased by 1.8% to the level of last year and amounted to 69 billion passenger-km. Suburban passenger turnover was 18.1 billion passenger-km an increase of 2.9%, while long-distance passenger turnover fell to 50.9 billion passenger-km, a decline of 3.4%.
In the 7 months to the end of July 2017, 58,7 million passengers travelled on the Moscow Central Ring, including almost 8.8 million passengers in July 2017 who used the Lastochka electric trains on the MCR.
The number of passengers on the high-speed Sapsan trains exceeded the half a million mark for the first time in one month and amounted to 511,800 passengers in July 2017, an increase of 6.5%.
Since the beginning of the year, Sapsan trains have transported more than 2.8 million passengers, an increase of 8% compared to the same period in 2016.
