Melbournians love a weekend getaway nearly as much as they love a glass of wine and now they can indulge in the best of both at the Grampians. Home to one of Victoria’s most renowned national parks and a favourite amongst bushwalkers, the Grampians has recently added to its list of shining attributes after taking out a number of accolades at this year’s Halliday Wine Companion awards.
Now in its fifth year, the prestigious Qantas epiQure Halliday Wine Companion awards celebrate Australia’s best wines, winemakers and wineries, selected from a pool of several thousand featured in James Halliday’s annual Halliday Guide. This year, a number of wineries from the Grampians unassuming wine region were honoured with titles decided by none other than respected wine critic and vigneron, James Halliday, and his panel of experienced tasters. The Best Sparkling Wine was taken out by Seppelt Winery – best known for producing sparkling wines – with their 2007 Seppelt Show Sparkling Limited Release Shiraz, while Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyard – home to the finest cool climate wines – was awarded the third best Shiraz in Australia, alongside an impressive red five star rating.
Appealing to much more than your average bushwalker, adventurers and foodies alike can now revel in a weekend getaway that boasts the best in nature and award winning wine.
Grampians Tourism was established in 2009 and is the peak industry body for tourism in the Grampians region. It encompasses and is directly supported by Ararat Rural City, Horsham Rural City, Northern Grampians Shire, and Southern Grampians Shire.
