The U.S. State Department has recently issued a warning to its citizens not to travel around Mexico including the ports of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, as the number of homicides rise at the resorts popular with American tourists.

The State Advisory issued this ban along with the warnings for two states, Quintana Roo and Baja California Sur.

This turf war between the crime gangs have led to a gush in violence.

From the tourism sector, around $20 billion a year is the earning for Mexico. If this warning raises among the Americans then the industry will see a deep death.

The state of Quintana Roo, where the resorts of Tulum and Cozumel are located, gets 10 million tourists a year, a third of the national total.

The warnings from United States come as homicides in Mexico are set to rise to their highest since at least the turn of the century.

According to the investigative report, Quintana Roo alone has seen 169 murders this year.

Th government of Mexico and the hotel industry is trying to grow the security of the places, where homicides frequently happen.

The restriction is reserved for parts of Chihuahua, Coahuila and Colima states, among others.

The Business group Coparmex, which operates more than 200 hotels, restaurants and other companies in Cancun, said the advisory will likely affect bookings this winter, when Americans head to the beaches.

Adrian Lopez Sanchez, who heads Coparmex in Cancun, says the internal security system is beginning to pick up after worsening earlier this year and last year.

Tourism Ministry of Quintana Roo was quick to react to the advisory, issuing a statement to say travelers in Mexico and the other parts in Mexico are kept with proper safety and security.

The hotel occupancy in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and surrounding resorts raised to 78.6 percent in the year through July from 75.1 percent in the year-earlier period.

In January, Asur Airport in Cancun saw the deterioration after the gunning incident happened at the Blue Parrot nightclub during an electronic music festival in nearby Playa del Carmen.
