Charlotte economy gets a boost in 2016, thanks to tourism

The tourism figures declared this week by the state reveal that the region of Charlotte had pooled in record dollars thanks to the spending generated by tourists heading for this place.

The economic impact equals to the tune of $6.7 billion all across Charlotte.

Out of this amount, as much as $5.16 billion has been sourced from the visitor spending in Mecklenburg County.

A private partnership, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina was released on Tuesday by a county-to-county breakdown of the $22.9 billion spent by domestic tourists across the state in 2016.

This report also portrays the fact that the tourist spending here has risen in as many as 97 of the 100 countries of North Carolina led by Mecklenburg County.

Wake County (Raleigh) had generated about $2 billion and Guilford (Greensboro/ High Point) Dare (the Outer Banks) and Buncombe County (Asheville) nations had lured in $1 billion each, as per the report that is generated by the U.S. Travel Association on behalf of North Carolina that represents the state’s tourism department.

During 2015, North Carolina had been able to generate $21.9 billion in terms of tourist spending from domestic travellers.

However, the tourism figure reported earlier for this year for 2016 topped this amount.

Tom Murray, CEO, Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, said in a statement on Wednesday that the visitor sector of Charlotte has strengthened with every passing year. He went on to add that the visitor spending enriches their community to a great extent, not only for the tourists arriving here but even for each one who calls this community home.

The local tourism agency mentioned that the visitor spending in this part of the world had risen by 2.8% from 2015 to the year 2016. Furthermore, the employment in this sector rose by 2.1% year-on-year to 64,490, as the payroll increased by 3.6% to about $2.1 billion.

The CRVA extracted research from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism for the Charlotte region’s nations based in South Carolina.

It cited data from the reputed research firm Longwoods International.

This data suggested that more than one million tourists had come to visit Charlotte in 2016, totaling about 27.8 million. To identify the impact of tourist spending in North Carolina, the U.S. Travel Association study accounts for employment figures, sales and tax revenues and also economic data.
