Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates is set to bring aboard more than 300,000 passengers during the 2017-2018 cruise season. The data revealed 148 calls from 18 ships from 15 cruise lines for the coming season.
There is a double digit percentage growth in the passenger numbers and an 8% increase in ship calls from 2016-2017 season which was record breaking.
MSC Cruises and Celebrity Cruises homeporting ships in the city had largely driven the growth in the number of passengers visiting Abu Dhabi port in the year 2016-2017.
It was reported that the Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Constellation had carried more than 13,000 guests from the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal during six 12 to 15 night voyages.
It is assumed that the Celebrity Constellation will be back in the 2017-2018, also the MSC Cruises’ 3,900 passenger MSC Spelndida.
As per the Oxford Economics the Abu Dhabi cruise tourism is going to attract 450,000 cruise passenger by the year 2020 rising to 808,428 in the year 2015.
An economic impact and forecasting report by Oxford Economics predicts that the Abu Dhabi cruise tourism segment will attract 450,000 cruise passengers by 2020, rising to 808,428 in 2025.
