This summer, Catalonia is all braced up to welcome a record number of globetrotters with the occupancy figures shooting up to 100% for the entire summer season.

On the other hand, the main coastal resorts and towns are expecting full occupancy rates in July and August and the inland tourism spots would witness a rise of 80% occupancy in August. Several occupancy rates here are estimated to taste record profits with certain figures touching the levels of 2006 to 2007.

June, especially has observed quite a great optimistic start to the regional occupancy rates.

Around Midsummer’s Eve in June, some places have also noticed substantially great booking levels thanks to the sunny skies in the last few weeks. Most of the tourists are European, and a large number of them arrive from Italy, Germany, France, the UK and the Netherlands. A few years ago, Catalonia had seen a boom in Russian tourists but then their figures declines sharply.

But this year, the figures for the country are expected to wear a positive spectacle.

In Barcelona, the Association of Tourist Apartments have forecast that there are ‘sold out’ signs almost everywhere. It has added that the same can be safely observed about the campsites that are based nearby. Hotels are yet to calculate their overall occupancy rates.

Having said that, a particular survey published by the regional council on Friday depicted that tourism is now a top concern for the residents of Barcelona.

For, nearly one if every five respondents mentioned that tourism is one of the most critical issues the city is presently confronting with and that it is up 8% as compared to six months ago. In the coastal regions of Maresme and Garraf, the seaside towns are really popular with the visitors including Malgrat de Mar, Santa Susanna and Calella where the hotels dream of achieving a 93% occupancy rate in July and a little under 100% in August.

And, the number of British tourists is estimated to rise in Garraf.

The Russian tourist statistics are expected to recover in Maresme. And, this year, Costa Daurada, or the Tarragona coast that flaunts of Salou as its leading destination, the all-time record equaling to 19.7 million overnight stays clocked in 2006 is likely to be broken. This is due to the fact that the Russian, Irish and Italian tourists might increase to a great extent by over 30% as compared to last year.

Costa Brava also is hopeful that the occupancy rates would cross 90%.

In the Ebre Rover area, the accommodation would be fully booked in the month of August.

Furthermore, in central Catalonia, that boasts of Montserrat Mountain as its most important highlight, the tourism figures are likely to touch 80% in August. Similarly, the figures are believed to rise in Lleida area. About 9 out of 10 lodgings are expected to be full in August. The hotel owners here believe that foreign tourists from Netherlands and Belgium would witness a smart rise.

Tourists from places like Egypt and Turkey however are declining amidst concerns regarding their safety in the last few years.
