Lombok International Airport is aiming to earn US$262,500 in terms of revenue this year thanks to massive expansion projects with an aim to lure an increased number of tourists to West Nusa Tenggara, as asserted by Angkasa Pura I (API).

This airport operator has set aside an amount of nearly Rp 205 billion between 2016 and 2017 in a bid to improve the infrastructure of the airport including an expansion of the apron and the construction of more airport lounges and gardens.

Gusti Ngurah Ardita who is the API Lombok general manager said on Thursday that they have a great opportunity to expand since they have 553 hectares of land that I twice as much as Bali airport. He went on to add that the airport had utilized merely 50% of the available land currently.

API is hopeful that it would be able to convince the Royal Brunei Airlines to open an international route from Brunei to Lombok and also a Jetstar from Australia.

Right now, Singapore and Malaysia are the only international connections to and from Lombok. The number of passengers flying to Lombok had risen by 34% to 3.4 million last year.

API hopes that this figure would catapult to 3.6 million in 2017.

Lombok airport serves other airlines including Travira Air, Silk Air, Wings Air, Batik Air, Lion Air, Citilink Indonesia and Garuda Indonesia.
