Though Bangkok is actually the most preferred tourist destination in the Asia-Pacific region, yet it is Singapore where travellers ending the most extravagantly that amounts to nearly $250 per day.

They spend about $145 in Bangkok.

The latest findings by Mastercard portrayed that since the last two years, Singapore had registered about 18% growth in the total visitor spending.

Singapore had attracted the highest visitor spending amounting to $254 last year, followed by Beijing ($242), Shanghai ($234), Hong Kong ($242) and Taipei ($208).

Bangkok was at $145, as per the global payment service company.

Triggered by the exploding middle class of the Asia-Pacific region, the overall tourism expenditure here jumped from $142 billion in 2009 to $245 billion in the year 2016.

In addition, the leading 20 source markets of the Asia Pacific contributed to nearly $202 billion to the region’s tourism revenue in 2016. The Mastercard analysis said that 2016 was quite an exciting period for tourism in this area.

The growth was motivated by the increasing consumer wealth in the emerging markets of Asia Pacific.

Singapore is the world’s fastest growing region in terms of global tourism by GDP contribution. Here tourism constitutes about 8.5% of the GDP of Asia-Pacific and 8.7% of total employment last year. Half of the 20 most-visited travel locales in Asia-Pacific witnessed over 10% growth in international overnight arrivals from the year 2015 to 2016.

The regions that leveraged to the maximum extent as a consequence of this growth are the Southeast and Northeast Asian markets like Pattaya (20.6%), Chiba (21.5%), Hokkaido (21.9%), Tokyo (22.2%), Bali (22.5%), Osaka (23.8%) and Seoul (32.7%).
