The Canadian economy received a much-needed boost last year, rising high on a robust cruise ship industry.

It has been reported that the spending of the cruise ship industry is gradually on the rise at a healthy rate in three of the major coastal cruise destinations including Atlantic Canada, Quebec and BC, as per a recent study detailing the impact of the Canadian cruising industry.

This study actually comprises a detailed analysis of everything associated with the cruising sector like home-porting, on-shore spending by crew members and passengers and even include commissions paid to travel agents across the nation.

This study is entitled as ‘The Economic Contribution of the International Cruise Industry in Canada 2016’.

It was prepared by Business Research & Economic Advisors (BREA) for the Cruise Lines International Association – North West & Canada (CLIA-NWC), the Cruise BC, the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association and the St. Lawrence Cruise Association.

The total economic impact of nearly $3.2 billion includes direct and indirect spending that had increased by 34% since the year 2012 and this attributed to significant increases in business taxes an also a favorable Canadian exchange rate.

The 9% rise in passenger visits between 2012 and 2016 is expected to be eclipsed by a 14% single-year growth forecast for this year and this signifies additional gains on the cruise sector spending in the next year.
