ATHENS - The final countdown has started for the 1st international golf tournament Messinia Pro-Am that will take place in Costa Navarino. The Westin Resort Costa Navarino is ready to open again and welcome the new tourist season and of course the top professional and amateur golfers from around the world.
The interest of the teams for the tournament peaked within the last months and only 6 places are now available for individual golfers for the final completion of the teams participating in the tournament.
Messinia Pro-Am 2017 will highlight the hospitality element, for which Messinia region is famous from the Homeric years. A total number of 30 teams, each consisting of one professional and three amateurs will compete on February 21-24, 2017 in the 1st Messinia Pro-Am in order to claim the first place. Among them many distinguished international professional athletes will play, such as the Dutch Ralph Miller (who recently won the PGA's of Europe Individual Championship), the Portuguese Hugo Santos (3 times champion of the PGA Professional Championship of Europe), the Italian Emanuele Canonica (champion of European Tour, 2005), the British Graham Fox (No. 2 in the ranking of the PGA in Scotland), and the famous Italian Lorenzo Gagli (featured in the top 150 of the Official World Golf Ranking), as well as top Greek pro like Adam Kritikos, Eugene Papadopoulos and Panos Karantzias.
On Sunday, February 19, the teams will be able to receive their participation bags and confirm their registration in the tournament’s registration office which will be located at The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, in the House of Events. Moreover, on Monday, February 20 they will be able to make, if they wish, their first unofficial practice.
Tuesday, February 21 is set as the first official practice day for each group and participant athletes will have a chance to work out in the two award-winner golf courses of Costa Navarino. The tournament starts on Wednesday, February 22 with the first round being held at The Dunes Course. The second round will be held the next day, Thursday, February 23 at The Bay Course. The third and final round of play will take place on Friday, February 24 at The Dunes Course, while at the end of the day the award ceremony of the tournament will take place. Messinia Pro-Am aims to promote the golf tourism of Greece and the great sponsors that will enhance this goal with their presence, is the official airline partner Aegean, member of the global airline alliance, Star Alliance and the largest Greek soft drinks and juices company Loux, who will support as official sponsor the tournament. The company J. Vourakis Sons EE will craft as official supporter the golfers’ prizes and the global leader in navigation and map products TomTom Sports will respectively support the tournament.
Messinia Pro-Am is expected to be supported by additional major sponsors from the Peloponnese and the rest of Greece. The car rental company MyTransfer will take over the transfers of the pro athletes as official sponsor of the tournament, offering special rates to participants, while Poseidonia will also support the tournament as official sponsor. The new official supporter of the tournament with a strong presence in all social events will be the amber drink Metaxa with its smooth taste, while the tournament will also be supported by the company Kyvernitis Travel.
The contribution of the helpers of the tournament is particularly significant, as they contribute with their benefits to the smooth running of the event. Messinia Pro-Am will specifically be assisted by the following Helpers: the high quality food production company Kalamata Papadimitriou, the brands Stolichnaya and Fever-Tree, b clothing company with the Cu Wrap brand, and the decoration company Dimiourgies.
The 1st Messinia Pro Am will be held under the auspices of the PGAs of Europe, the PGA of Greece, the Hellenic Golf Federation and the Hellenic Olympic Academy.
