The future travellers who pay a visit to Cambodia would be disappointed to learn that they would now be required to shell out an increased amount of money if they wish to explore the renowned Angkor Wat temple. In fact, they would need to pay almost double the previous admission fee.

Towards the beginning of February, the price of a one-day pass to the temple went up from the existent US$20 to $37.

The tourism officials of this temple have said that such an increase has been the instance of the first price hike in about 25 years for many of the sites and was long overdue.

Angkor Wat is, however, not the only Canadian tourist attraction to have raised its prices.

One of the newspapers have mentioned that the three-day passes to the Angkor Wat Archaeological Park that is located in Siem Reap had escalated from $40 to $62. And, the week-long passes are now priced at $72, up from $60.

The first tourist spot in this region that witnessed a sharp rise in the admission fees has been the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.

The fees had gone up from $6.25 to $10. The tickets to the National Museum and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum also increased from $3 to $5. This move followed reports of an increased number of tourist arrivals to this part of the world last year. But then, the total revenues have been lower.
