Qantas passengers will be able to binge watch their favourite TV shows and films for free, listen to 30 million plus songs and enjoy live sport, all at 35,000 feet.
The Australian Airline has teamed up with subscription sites Netflix and Spotify, as well as Australian TV app Foxtel, to offer passengers much more entertainment than is usually found onboard.
The service will be rolled out on Qantas’ domestic flights later this month, along with superfast wi-fi that will reportedly be ten times faster than existing in-flight wi-fi.
The rest of the airline’s domestic Boeing 737s and Airbus A330 aircrafts will be kitted out with the new technology from this summer.
Olivia Worth, Qantas group executive of marketing said that, when the in-flight wi-fi is switched on, the popular uses among the passengers are email, online shopping and general web browsing . But a lot of people relish about flying is being able to catch up on their favourite TV shows or watch movies they didn’t get to see at the cinema.
Foxtel and Netflix have huge catalogues that are expanding all the time, so there will be no shortage of entertainment on board.
Airlines are increasingly striving to introduce wi-fi on their aircraft. Last year British Airways said it will launch the capability on its short haul flights this summer.
