Trump Hotels plans for U.S. expansion questioning president’s business ownership

The head of Donald Trump’s hotel-management company spoke about an ambitious expansion across the U.S., which many are seeing as a conflict between the presidency and his business.

Trump Hotels Chief Executive Officer Eric Danziger spoke about the company’s broad U.S. ambitions and said that their plans for expansion in China are at halt following the president’s comments which caused rocky diplomatic relations.

Danziger said after a panel discussion that there are 26 major metropolitan areas in the U.S., and they are there in five of them. Speaking at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit in Los Angeles, he continued that they are hopeful about the expansion in the rest twenty-one areas as well.

Meanwhile, new membership fees at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago club have doubled to $200,000, Bernd Lembcke, its managing director, said. The Palm Beach, Florida resort, which Trump has called “The Winter White House,” was the location of the president’s New Year’s Eve celebration with family and supporters. Wendy Patrick, who teaches business ethics at San Diego State University, said that the hotel chain that bears Trump’s name is seeking to expand within the United States raises questions of both law and ethics.

Trump’s hotel business consists mainly of branding and management contracts and the expansion may involve converting existing properties. The major controversy aroused from the fact that no government official is allowed to gain from the lease of any building which is rented from the federal government.
