A latest survey conducted by the flight data firm FlightStats ranked Air India to be the third worst airline in the world, after placing Icelandair in the second-worst and El Al in the worst position. Apart from these three, airlines like China Eastern Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Air China, Korean Air and Hong Kong Airlines also made it to the list of the worst airlines in the world.
In order to rank the airlines, the firm FlightStats considered issues related to the service quality, quality of the cabin and flight delays of the airlines.
The spokesperson from Air India, Dhananjay Kumar informed that they totally disagree with the report published by FlightStats about AI. He also informed that initially it seemed that the report was fabricated so AI management would investigate the report till the end.
The vice president of aviation and distribution at FlightStats, Jim Hetzel informed that they stitch data together from 500 different sources to come up with the report. Hetzel said that all of these pieces come in different formats, all with different elements of value, and a lot of times the sources don’t agree. He also informed that they have built the technology and logic to sort that out and validate information across multiple sources.
Apart from the worst airlines, the survey also named the best airlines in the world. Qantas, Delta Air Lines, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Iberia and KLM were ranked to be the best international airlines to travel.
