According to the latest figures, in 2016 the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways transported 1.0371 billion passengers, an increase of 1.6% on 2015. Long-distance passenger numbers amounted to 101.4 million, an increase of 3.6% on the previous year, while suburban commuters were up 1.4% to 935.7 million.
Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways' network increased by 3.4% in 2016 compared to 2015 and amounted to 124.5 billion passenger-km. Long-distance passenger turnover increased 4.5% to 93.5 billion passenger-km, while suburban passenger turnover rose by 0.3% to 31 billion passenger-km.
According to the latest figures, in December 2016, the Russian Railways' network carried 88.8 million passengers, 7.1% more than in December 2015. Suburban passenger numbers jumped by 8.3% to 81.5 million, while long-distance passengers rose 0.2% to 7.3 million.
Passenger turnover amounted to 8.44 billion passenger-km in December 2016, 1.5% less than in December 2015.
