Visitors to the theme park ‘Movie World’, situated in Australia’s Gold Coast, had to witness a bizarre incident after the authorities had to launch a rescue work to bring down the 20 riders, who got stranded on top of the 32 metre high roller-coaster ‘Arkham Asylum’ on Wednesday, 11th January.
The park authorities had to call the fire-fighters to conduct a ‘vertical rescue’, after the malfunctioned roller-coaster stranded the riders before 12 pm local time. The poor riders had to sit upright, almost near the peak of the roller-coaster, where the legs of the marooned rider could be seen dangling in the air.
According to a spokeswoman for the fire and emergency services of Queensland, the emergency officials rescued all the 20 visitors around 1:30 pm local time.
Sources informed that among the 20 patrons, 16 were rescued after following standard park management procedures, but four of the riders were rescued with the technical assistance provided by the fire rescue team members.
It was known that some of the marooned riders had to stay stuck for almost 90 long minutes, where the midday sun was scorching above them.
Paul Young, the senior operations supervisor of the Queensland Ambulance Service, informed that all the riders looked a little bit flushed, a little bit hot for being in the sun for so long but they were all fine. None of the riders needed to be transported to any nearby hospital.
In November 2016, 16 visitors in the Movie World had to stay stranded for 30 minutes on the roller-coaster ‘Green Lantern’ after encountering ‘computer fault’.
The Worksafe Queensland cleared all the rides of the Movie World in November, 2016.
