Anglesey to welcome record number of cruise ships this year


Holyhead that is located in the region of Anglesey is likely to welcome a record number of cruise ships this year and this includes the most luxurious cruise liner that has ever been built.

The schedule of the year 2017 has revealed that at least 44 cruise vessels would be arriving at the port over the summer and spring.

Over 20,000 passengers would come to Anglesey with a potential tourism windfall of over £2. It marks a 47% increase in the number of cruise ship and also a 60% rise in passenger number as compared to the year 2016.

The ships would dock at the Orthios that was formerly known as Anglesey Aluminium.

And, the biggest boat that is the Celebrity Silhouette would be anchored in the outer harbor and the passengers would be brought to the shore by tender. The most luxurious cruise ship, Seven Seas Explorer is also scheduled to dock here in June. This cruise vessel boasts of £10,000 per night suites, extremely sophisticated lounges and extravagantly designed theatres.

Moreover, it comprises 1,500 crew members and 750 passengers.

Richard Dew who is the portfolio holder of Economic Development said that it is great to witness the annual cruise season reaching new heights.

He also said that they would be prepared to welcome more ships and more passengers than ever before in 2017. This would enable Anglesey to position itself as a premier cruise port destination in Wales.

Dew feels that this year’s summer would be great as it would witness a large number of cruise visitors who would be capable of enjoying the fantastic tourism product.

The wider part of North West Wales and the Island has a great tourism package and the industry experts are optimistic about growth in the cruise ship sector.

The Isle of Anglesey County Council said that it would remain in a partnership with the Welsh Government, Orthios and Stena Line with an aim to draw more cruise liners to this part of the world.
