After Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General, World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) announced 2017 as his final year as UNWTO Secretary-General, four countries have already announced their candidates for the May elections.
Zimbabwe, Georgia, Brazil and the Seychelles are all now firmly in the race to replace Taleb Rifai.
Zimbabwe with Walter Mzembi was first on the starting line before being joined by Zurab Pololikashvili from Georgia . On 05 January Brazil announced Márcio Favilla as their candidate and from the Seychelles it was confirmed that country’s former Tourism Minister Alain St.Ange was their candidate.
This race will prove hard for all candidates because each of the candidates are coming with a number of friendly countries by their sides.
At FITUR, the Tourism Trade Fair of Spain every candidate will be on deck trying to woo support for their candidacy.
