Alaska Cruise Diary: Juneau

According to the draft released by the City of Ketchikan’s Port and Harbors Department, the cruise industry of Alaska would be witnessing a record number of cruise tourists in the year 2017.

Steve Corporon, who is the Port and Harbors director said in a memo that the estimated passenger count reveals that Ketchikan is on its way to breaking the million-visitor marl in the following year.

According to the 2017 calendar, the first cruise ship would be arriving on 4th May. The cruise season is predicted to continue till the end of September.

Corporon said that the busiest days at the height of the robust cruise season would be generally on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. There would be approximately about four and six ships during this steadily growing cruise season in 2017. It is expected that the other days of the week would witness a relatively slower cruise traffic, with about two to four ships.

The new cruise vessels that would make a mark in the Alaska market include Seabourn Sojourn, Eurodam and the Emerald Princess.

The Port and Harbors Department has scheduled a meeting to hear the feedback on the berth assignments as well as the draft schedule. That is set for 11th January, around 1 p.m. in the chambers of City Council.
