India has been planning to offer its high-speed rail contract to Japan. Both these nations have decided to coordinate with one another. The issue would be discussed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi when he visits Japan.
If all is well, it would be the second project of Japan in India.
The first one was also a high-speed railway link that is based on the technology of the Shinkansen bulltrain. The second project would be utilized to connect the cities of Ahmedabad and Mumbai. It is scheduled to come up in central or southern India.
Officials from India as well as Japan are discussing the proposals.
This is because Japan is quite eager to expand the high-speed railway networking system in India. And, if this railway project is completed, it would indeed be a revolutionary step since the time consumed in train travel is quite a lot in India.
The engineering task for the first link is being planned to commence within December.
A loan of about 81% is being offered by Japan. The rate of interest would be nominal, about 0.1% annually.
The Indian Railways has said that the corridors like Mumbai-Nagpur, Delhi-Nagpur, Delhi-Kolkata and Mumbai-Chennai are good enough for trains with a speed of 300 kmph or higher speed trains. Studies are being carried out along these corridors to ascertain if they are all feasible.
Alongside Japan, China is also considering the creation of high-speed railway networks in India.
