The government of Canada has decided to make the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) scheme mandatory for all the ‘visa-exempt foreign nationals’ in order to tighten the security measures in the country. Foreign travellers including the citizens of Britain and US now have to obtain an eTA after flying to the country.
The government has obtained the inspiration of the eTA scheme from the Esta program in US, where all the travellers need to fill in their information after their arrival in the country. Now, the travellers need to fill in the eTA form and after getting the authorisation, they will get to travel to Canada for five years without filling in any other forms. The authorities in Canada have taken the measure to prevent terror attacks and other disruptions in the country.
The government has informed that the eTA requirement allows Canada to check that travellers are admissible before they board their flight, preventing those who are inadmissible from travelling to Canada in the first place.
Following the US election results, the hotel, aviation and travel industry in Canada is hoping to receive a massive number of foreign travellers from the United States in 2017. The expected arrival has forced the authorities in Canada to make it mandatory to fill in the eTA form in order to avoid any kind of chaos and disruption in the country.
