People who desire to avail train travel in France would have to spend €17.59 every 100 kilometres. Therefore France is among the European countries that has the priciest train travel and it ranks 5th out of 36 European nations in this regard.

France has been ranked only after Switzerland (€ 47.44 every 100 km), UK (€ 23.44), Netherlands (€ 1.86) and Belgium (€20.54), as revealed by GoEuro, a German travel site. According to this website, there have been nearly 300 million domestic train journeys in 40 European countries between April 2015 and April 2016.

However, France is not quite reputed for train travelling. And, the scenario of bus and air travellers is different from train travel in France.

France has been ranked 25th most expensive nation out of 40 countries for bus travel. The average price of bus travel in France is €4.78 every 100 kilometres.

On the other hand, air travel in France would require €14.74 every 100 kilometres that places it on 17th rank out of the 24 European countries offering domestic flights. The priciest countries in terms of air travel are the Czech Republic, Finland and Denmark.

When the different transport modes were combined, France was placed at 11th rank  out of 40 European countries while the average cost was €12.37 per 100 kilometres.

GoEuro said that the prices of  France, particularly of air and bus travel are ‘quite reasonable’ thanks to the economical airlines and cheap bus alternatives.
