Travelers who want luxury accommodations for bargain-basement prices should head to Reno, Nevada. That's one of the finding of a new analysis just released by Hipmunk, that ranks U.S. cities by the average cost of five-star hotel rooms there.
At just $169/night, Reno tops the luxury bargain-hunters' list (US average is $292).
At the other end of the spectrum is Canyon Point, UT, where your bank account better be as impressive as your taste: a five-star room there will set you back a whopping $2060.
Some other findings:
- For each star increment increase, prices rise 16 percent on average. Five-star properties are 42 percent more expensive on average than 4-star properties.
- Forty-seven percent of all hotel bookings in NYC are for 5-star destinations, the highest percent of the top-ten most popular US destinations overall.
