The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) completed its newest visitor attraction in Puerto Morelos, a sign with large, colorful letters that spells out the name of the city. The new photo opportunity spot was inaugurated on June 24.
The project, led by the Quintana Roo state government, is expected to boost tourism in the region, benefitting over 14 resorts and small hotels, in addition to numerous hostels and vacation rentals.
Located at the city’s boardwalk, the recently inaugurated sign will provide tourists with the ideal backdrop for the perfect photograph while capturing the brilliant blue colors of the Caribbean Sea. The sign is expected to generate about 150,000 social media impressions in its first year.
In other Puerto Morelos news, the fisherman’s town has also reported an average hotel occupancy rate of 95 percent, which indicates a two percent increase from expected rates for this summer season. The destination currently boasts over 5,500 hotel rooms and the influx of tourists is benefiting other sectors as well, with an estimated economic gain of 30 percent more in sales.
The destination has hosted multiple events this summer season that have largely contributed to the arrival of tourists to Puerto Morelos. The Soy Cerveza Beer Festival, one of the most popular beer festivals in the area that allows attendees to enjoy a variety of locally brewed beers, drew in over 7,000 visitors in July. On August 6, another major musical event called Travesía Sol Arcadia took place at the “Jewel of the Caribbean,” featuring performances by top Latin American artists including Los Amigos Invisibles and The Wookies.
“We are proud to continue expanding Puerto Morelos’ already robust tourism offerings,” said Jesus Almaguer, CEO of the Cancun CVB. “The constant evolution and innovation of tourism attractions will help Puerto Morelos solidify its international presence as one of the most popular tourism destinations in Mexico. We are certain this new attraction will provide visitors with an additional incentive to keep coming back to Cancun and explore its surroundings.”
With the opening of new hotels and tourist attractions, as well as the range of upcoming international activities and events in 2016, Cancun and the Treasures of the Caribbean are on a great path to top its 2015 record-breaking year of 5 million visitors.
