China has finally been capable of building its very first straddling bus that would be travelling above street level thereby permitting cars to travel beneath it quite easily. A tiny model of this vehicle was exhibited in the month of May.
As per the official news agency of China, the vehicle underwent a test drive on Qinhuangdao city that is based in the Hebei province on Tuesday.
Initially, the extraordinary vehicle was referred to as TEB-1, or the Transit Elevated Bus and was declared as a futuristic travel option for Chinese travellers. This vehicle is believed to diminish fuel consumption by as much as 800 tons and cut down on carbon emissions by 2,500 tons. Moreover, its sleek design would also ensure that it eases traffic congestion to a great extent.
Electricity is utilized to power the engine of the vehicle that is 25 feet in width and 72 feet in length with a capacity to carry at least 300 passengers. However, the future versions of this straddling bus would be able to carry an increased number of passengers. The bus is 16 feet tall, leaving space till 7 feet underneath it making enough room for cars to pass underneath it.
Traffic lights have been fitted on the different corners of this bus.
It has been expected that it would travel at a speed of 40 miles an hour making it one of the speediest modes of public transportation systems in China.
Song Youzhou, a Chinese engineer had introduced the concept of this bus in the year 2010, followed by May next year. The concept had been launched in the 19th International High-Tech Expo at Beijing in the month of May.
City officials in Qinghuangdao have said that they have been building special tracks where this vehicle would have to undergo several test drives.
City officials and engineers would understand the practical logic of such a unique bus through all such test drives. Furthermore, the test drives would also determine if the bus would serve its purpose effectively.
