The U.S. Senate last week unanimously passed S.Res. 486, commemorating “Cruise Travel Professional Month” in October 2016 and acknowledging “the creativity and professionalism of the men and women of the cruise travel professional community.” The resolution was introduced by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), with co-sponsoring Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK).
CLIA is celebrating Plan a Cruise Month in October 2016, when travel agents, cruise lines and industry partners will showcase cruise vacations and the wide variety of cruise options to fit every style and budget. CLIA has 20,000 Global Travel Agency and 30,000 Travel Agent Members in the United States.
“We thank Senator Rubio and his colleagues for recognizing the important contributions of travel agents and cruising to the U.S. economy,” said Cindy D’Aoust, president and CEO, CLIA. “More than half of all cruisers embark from U.S. ports, and whether sailing from North America or the hundreds of other cruise ports around the world, 70 percent of cruise travelers book through a travel agent because they recognize the value that an experienced travel professional offers in finding the right cruise to fit travelers’ interests and budgets.”
Last year, a resolution was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives designating October 2015 as “Cruise Travel Professional Month” during CLIA’s Plan a Cruise Month. The extensive Plan a Cruise Month activities last year resulted in 250 broadcast segments and more than 83 million social media impressions. Tags:
