Tech-savvy trains to ply between London and Birmingham

Chiltern Railways has announced that it would operate tech-savvy trains that would revolutionize train travel between London and Birmingham, in collaboration with Enable iD.

As per this brand new initiative, passengers would be able to travel in trains fitted with sensors that would convey important information to customers while they are on board the train and also while they move towards the station.

These sensors would communicate the current temperature in every carriage, the location of seats available, information about the running time and catering status on the train.

Such technology-enabled trains would be utilized to communicate personalized travel updates to passengers, along with temperature updates and information regarding the train stops.

This kind of sensor data would be a part of mobility system named ‘MyJrny’ that enables customers to be associated with transport operators, thanks to the apps that they use to move about.

Such a unique kind of train service would be available to customers from next year onwards.

Arriva, the parent company of Chiltern Railways and RSSB or Rail Safety and Standards Boards Train Operator Challenge would finance this pilot project. There is a plan to introduce the technology-equipped trains to other brands of railways if it is really successful.

Paul Bowden, who is the commercial director, Chiltern Railways declared that this railway project would examine the performance and how the train travel is personalized for passengers.

He also said that such an innovation would permit customers to arrive at the stations better informed about every aspect of the train.

He further added that the aim of Chiltern Railways is to provide the best travelling experience to customers by helping them engage with the rail travel effectively.

Chris Thompson, spokesperson, Enable iD said that their goal was to inform passengers about the different modes of transport thereby offering them a personalized kind of real-time travel but maintaining the privacy of passengers at the same time.
