Mandarin Oriental, Singapore announced the appointment of Mr Christopher Kang as the hotel’s new Director of Commercial Strategy.
Christopher’s hospitality career spans over 20 years, and he brings a wealth of experience to his new role, where he will be primarily responsible for spearheading and driving the hotel’s commercial strategy to maximise growth. Christopher’s most recent position was as Director of Sales and Marketing at Shangri-La, Singapore from 2012 to 2016. His responsibility included overseeing the Serviced Apartments and Residences Sales, which further broadened his management expertise.
Christopher’s managerial career began at Shangri-La in 1997 as Assistant Catering Sales Manager, from where he quickly advanced to Catering Sales Manager, followed by then Director of Catering and Meeting Services, and Director of Sales. After a stint as Director of Sales and Marketing in Beijing for Fraser Suites’ pre-opening, Christopher returned to Shangri-La as Director of Sales and Marketing in Shenzhen and subsequently in Kerry Pudong, Shanghai, before returning to Singapore in 2012.
Christopher holds a series of qualifications, including a Diploma in Sales and Marketing from the Marketing Institute of Singapore, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Marketing Management from the University of Northumbria, as well as supplementary skills enhancements such as marketing strategy courses for business leaders at Cornell University and Competitive Advantage and Strategic Positioning with Cardean University. His credentials also include Digital Marketing Management, Food and Beverage, and Finance certifications from the Singapore Hotel Training & Educational Centre.
