IRONMAN announced the addition of a new official career in Central America, Ironman 70.3 Costa Rica. The inaugural event will take place on June 18, 2017, in Playa del Coco, Guanacaste, situated on the Pacific coast.
“With its beautiful natural landscape, flora and fauna, Costa Rica is the ideal place to hold a race IRONMAN 70.3″ Wilber Anderson, Race Director said.
“We are confident that this event will become a classic when participants cross the finish line in a superb location that will ensure them that their effort was worth it.”
IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon starts with Costa Rica 1.9 km (1.2 miles) swimming in a circuit in the calm, clear waters of the Gulf of Papagayo, 90 km (56 miles) cycling a distance of two laps, take athletes through the lush vegetation of the region, including monkeys and iguanas, while being cheered by the spectators in the districts of Sardinal and San Blas.
The path Athletics 21 km (13.1 miles) will take place between palm trees overlooking the ocean and take athletes to the finish line in the stunning Playa del Coco, Guanacaste.
Mauricio Ventura, Costa Rica Tourism Minister highlighted the importance of using such events to strengthen the promotion and marketing, in order to position Costa Rica as a diverse tourist destination.
“Hand in hand with the private sector we have managed to consolidate the country as an authentic destination where sport and tourism combine successfully.
“This important competition will encourage the participants, supporters and the public who visit us to consider Costa Rica as the ideal destination for next vacation, and strengthen the country’s image by developing a high level event under the umbrella of the prestigious Ironman, “said Ventura.
“The splendid rain forests of Costa Rica, the beautiful beaches on the Pacific Ocean and the infinite biodiversity make the country a perfect place to carry out the event destination,” said Edwin Vargas, vice president of Colombia Tri Events. “Athletes come to a country that values ecotourism; they will feel the appreciation of nature, society and local culture immediately.”
IRONMAN 70.3 Costa Rica will be part of one of the 90 events of the World Series IRONMAN 70.3.
