When it comes to picture-perfect island destinations for summer tourism, Spain undoubtedly features among the top slot spots.
The Balearic islands archipelago off eastern Spain in the Mediterranean Sea is an ideal summer travel destination. You’ll find coves with turquoise waters where pine trees almost reach the sand, a perfect setting for enjoying the great outdoors, Ibiza and its nightlife, and everything you need for a relaxing holiday next to the sea.
The archipelago consists of four large islands- Majorca, Ibiza, Minorca and Formentera which are popular tourist destinations. You can fly to Majorca and Ibiza from many European cities in about two hours and a half.
Ibiza in particular is known as an international party destination, attracting many of the world’s most popular DJs to its nightclubs. The islands’ culture and cuisine are similar to that of the rest of Spain.
Mallorca, the largest island, is known for its beaches, scenic coastline and the Serra de Tramuntana mountains to the north, popular for hiking. Palma, the capital, is home to buzzing nightlife, as well as a Gothic cathedral with an altar canopy by architect Antoni Gaudi, and the Moorish Almudaina royal palace.
You’ll want to take lots of photos to boast about your holidays when you come to these beaches.
In Minorca, for example, you shouldn’t miss the coves of Macarella, Mitjana and Turqueta.
Most of Formentera’s coastline is unspoilt, and you can find beaches such as Ses Illetes and Llevant.
Access to the islands is easy from Britain and mainland Spain, with plenty of bargain-priced flights in summer, though in winter only Mallorca is really well connected. In addition, ferries and catamarans link Barcelona, Valencia and Denia with the islands, and there are plenty of inter-island ferries, too, though these can be pricey and fully booked in summer.
