Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. is honoured to have been recognized with a Fair Trade Workplace Designation. Awarded by Fairtrade Canada, this is only the second such recognition for a corporation in Canada.
“Winnipeg Airports Authority is committed to making sustainable choices, where our everyday business decisions aim to be planet conscious and socially responsible,” said Barry Rempel, President & CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “To us, purchasing and promoting Fairtrade products is the right thing to do for our company, the environment we live in and the community we serve.”
“When workplaces become Fair Trade designated, they give farmers and workers the power to improve their economic well-being and create better lives for themselves and their communities,” said Hugues Tshibemba, CEO of Fairtrade Canada. “We congratulate the management and employees of Winnipeg Airports Authority in creating meaningful change every day.”
The Fair Trade Workplace Program recognizes offices that demonstrate strong commitment to fair trade by making products available to their staff and visitors. It empowers individuals in their workplace to contribute to a world where sustainability and trade justice are at the heart of ethical consumption. The workplace designation encourages co-workers to be mindful of the true value of labour and the human costs of production. It acknowledges that solidarity between workers everywhere is an important step towards a more just world.
