CHICAGO—Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has officially opened in the city's Barra da Tijuca neighborhood—the site of 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
“Expanding Hyatt’s brand presence in South America is critical to our global expansion strategy as we bring more quality experiences to our loyal guests in destinations where they want to travel to,” said Pete Sears, group president – Americas for Hyatt.
Designed by interior designer Yabu Pushelberg and with the local assistance of Brazilian designer firm Anastassiadis Arquitetos, the hotel features floor-to-ceiling windows, along with stones and fabrics authentic to Brazil. The 436 guestrooms include 40 suites, two 1,561-sq.-ft. presidential suites, and one 2,100-sq.-ft. penthouse suite with a 1,248-sq.-ft. terrace including a lounge area and a plunge pool.
Three signature restaurants, designed by Brazilian architect Arthur Casas, will bring Hyatt’s culinary expertise to the destination and showcase choices that highlight international and local flavors. Offering three-meal service, Tano Cucina Italiana, is a modern Italian trattoria with an ever-changing menu incorporating seasonal ingredients. In an intimate dining room setting, Shiso Japanese restaurant features a single piece, reclaimed wooden bar that surrounds the sushi chefs. Cantô Gastrô & Lounge uses natural materials to create textures throughout the space all the way out to its terraces, which open toward the pool and garden area.
Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro’s extensive lagoon-view event facilities totals more than 21,530 sq. ft. The fully integrated conference and events center features two multi-purpose ballrooms, nine meeting rooms with outdoor pre-function areas, and two loft kitchen areas will provide an extensive range of options.
