The Real Mary King’s Close reaps the rewards of its £500,000 redevelopment project as VisitScotland awards the top Edinburgh attraction five stars for the twelfth year in a row.
The award follows a momentous year which has seen the attraction transform following a six-figure investment from operator Continuum Attractions. The substantial redevelopment and expansion project included the reinstatement of doorways on the Royal Mile, a new entrance and exhibition area as well as the creation of an internal 40-seat café, The Royal Exchange Coffee House.
“To have retained our five star accreditation following such a major year in the attraction’s history is testament to the dedicated team we have here at The Real Mary King’s Close. The developments have seen our visitor journey expand meaning guests can experience more than ever before; from myth busting in our new exhibition area, to sampling Scottish produce in The Royal Exchange Coffee House.” comments Craig Miller, the attraction’s General Manager.
“However, we are not stopping here. Part of our success is down to us continually looking at new ways to enhance our visitor experience whether that’s through on-going investment or staff training. 2016 promises to be an exciting year for us with events throughout the year and tour developments planned for the summer season. Developments such as these ensure we always deliver a five star experience, creating stories that live and memories that last.”
Since opening as a visitor attraction, The Real Mary King’s Close has consistently retained its five star status and has attracted over 2 million visitors.
Maintaining its five star accreditation continues to position The Real Mary King’s Close alongside Edinburgh’s elite five star attractions including Edinburgh Castle, Camera Obscura and The Scotch Whisky Experience. In addition to retaining its five star status, the attraction’s new café, The Royal Exchange Coffee House was the 1000th business to achieve the prestigious “Taste Our Best” accolade from VisitScotland.
The Real Mary King’s Close is operated by Continuum Attractions. Continuum Attractions is the leading operator of cultural heritage experiences in the UK. Continuum currently manages an award winning portfolio of visitor attractions including Oxford Castle Unlocked and York’s Chocolate Story.
