PORTLAND, OR—The 506-room Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront has completed a multimillion-dollar, six-month transformation which focused on the guestrooms.
"Marriott has invested in a lot of research to redesign the hotel room in such a way that addresses all of the modern traveler's needs," noted Tim Pyne, general manager. "We are proud that Portland will be one of the first hotels to roll out these new rooms."
Key design elements of the new guestrooms include a spa-like shower experience, a redesigned closet, multifunctional work/eat surfaces, reduced furniture, modern fixtures and sliding barn doors, which provide much more usable space in the bathroom as they slide into the wall versus opening into the room, according to the company.
According to Pyne, "One of the newest innovations in our guestrooms is open closets, which address many travelers’ fears of leaving something behind.” Another local influence: Portland guest and locals alike love their bikes, and the hotel installed bike storage in several rooms.
The highlights of the transformation at the hotel include completely renovated guestrooms — including the addition of three rooms to bring the hotel's grand total to 506 rooms — featuring waterfront and downtown views; all new guestroom furniture designed with mobile workspaces and plug-in technology; 47-inch flat-screen TVs and enhanced high-speed Internet; ergonomically designed desk, open closet and upgraded bathrooms; locally influenced art and decor; additional USB ports and outlets; and ambient lighting.
In October, a new M Club Lounge will open at the hotel. Located on the third floor, the M Club Lounge is the brand's reinvented Concierge Lounge, and provides space to work, recharge, connect and relax, with the convenience of food and beverage options that appeal to the modern traveler, according to the company.
Located on the banks of the Willamette River, the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront features views of Mount Hood. Nearby attractions include Waterfront Park and Portland State University.
The property also features Bistro by Truss; a 24-hour fitness center and more than 44,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space.
