The Board of Airport Commissioners at Los Angeles International Airport voted unanimously last week to approve the proposal, which will allow the ridesharing to drop off and pick up passengers at the airport as soon as late August. Uber and Lyft will be able to operate at LAX according to the result of voting that makes this the largest city in the country to allow ridesharing companies at the airport.
The decision does not affect LA/Ontario International or Van Nuys airports, which are also run by LAX operator Los Angeles World Airports.
Opponents of the plan to allow Uber and Lyft at LAX were concerned about passenger and driver safety, as well as increased traffic and congestion around the airport. Taxi and limousine drivers were also worried about facing increased competition from the lower priced services.
