The 2015 Summer Travel Trends revealed the most popular Summer travel destinations in the UK and in the world. Reported annually by hotel comparison website trivago.co.uk, Edinburgh is now more expensive than London for a hotel stay, 37% of Brits are heading to Spain and the average one week hotel spend is £1036.

- Manchester has the highest price increases – up an average of £10 from last year.
- Glasgow hotel prices, inflated by the Commonwealth Games in 2014, have returned to normal this year.

- Dubai is now the most popular summer destination among UK users for a stay of at least 6 nights. The Spanish resorts of Benidorm, Salou and Playa de las Américas remain popular, while holidaymakers are heading to NYC and Orlando in the States.
- Hotel prices in the USA are significantly more expensive than last summer, with Orlando up by 25% and NYC up by 19% to an average of £221 per night.
- Hotel prices in Europe are varied, with some showing huge YOY price hikes (Salou is up by 36% and Benidorm by 33%), and others significantly cheaper (Sorrento is down by 13%, Rome down by 12% and Playa de las Américas down by 10%).
UK Travel Habits:
• While the average clicked hotel price this summer is £260, the average booking price is £112, showing UK users research hotels much more expensive than the ones they book.
• The average one week hotel spend among UK holidaymakers is £1036, which is the third most expensive after Italy (£1168) and Germany (£1130).
• The average trip duration among Brits this summer is 4 days. Globally, Russia has the longest average (10 days) and Japan the shortest (just 2 days).
• Friday is the most popular day of departure from the UK (23% of trips), followed by Monday (19%). Tuesday is the least popular departure day (just 9%).
• The most popular week of travel is 17th to 23rd August.
